Bisperas ng Bagong Taon (New Year's Eve), where everyone is busy in each home, preparing for the festive time. In our home, special food is prepared but not like Noche Buena feast (Christmas Eve). We have, pancit (noodles) to signify long life, malagkit (sticky rice) like biko that signifies good fortune will stick around all throughout the year, etc… and of course, the 12 round fruits each to signify a month of the year.
The best part of this event as we welcome the New Year are the Countdown till the midnight strikes and firecrackers (paputok). In Philippines, we pinned them as their tag names as: judas belt, super lolo, kwitis, bawang, dancing watusi and etc… and also most of the houses are doing noise barrage – pots and pans, horns of all types of vehicles, empty cans, torotot and etc…
Not only that, we lived in these beliefs that has been nurtured to us by our grandparents, attend mass, we dress in polka-dots, we put coins in our pockets, we keep our doors wide open, we jump as high as we could to become taller and neatness of our home.
